As much as everyone likes a feel good story about the triumph of democracy and renewable energy over authoritarianism and fossil fuels, it's pretty easy to find holes in the narrative. Europe for instance famously hooked themselves up to cheap russian gas. China is at the forefront of renewable energy, were better prepared for the iran oil shock than many other countries, and even helped stabilize prices.
